Mark Hamill to get star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

(KUTV) Mark Hamill — best known for his portrayal as Luke Skywalker in a handful of Star Wars movies — will join 2,629 others with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

He will get his star at a ceremony in front of the El Capitan Theater on Thursday, March 8 where Harrison Ford and George Lucas will speak.

"[I] can't say this is a dream come true," he said on Twitter, "because I was never foolish enough to think something like this could ever happen."

Hamill was a guest on several TV series and TV was in TV movies, including for nine-months on soap opera "General Hospital" before he did his first film, "Star Wars," for Lucas. That film became a trilogy and he returned to the role in J.J. Abrams’ "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and in Rian Johnson’s "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

He also had roles in Broadway plays "The Elephant Man" and "Amadeus" and was a prolific voice-over artist. Hamill was featured in many animated series for television, feature films and video games but is best known for his voice work as the Joker in "Batman: The Animated Series" and animated film, "Batman: The Killing Joke."

The star is timed with the release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" on home video on March 27.

Hamill is involved with charitable organizations, which have included USC Neighborhood Academic Initiative, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Feeding America.
